Default 2010 Knik River Cleanup

Hey all,
The Knik/Jim Creek Cleanup is scheduled for May 22nd this year. As always, you guys are invited! Starting at 10AM in the Pavilion parking lot, lunch at 2 and door prize drawing at 3. We are trying to work in a run/benefit for a charity afterwards, I'll let you know hoow that will work when I know! :-)
If you guys want to haul out cars (I don't know how many are out there right now) we need to get them out of the parking area. I'll leave those logistics to you folks.
If you have any questions email me at merickson@alaska.com.
Come on out!
Mike

This was a great event last year. There were only 5 or 6 cars that we hauled out but we still found large items like washing machines and engine blocks.

It's a great way to get 4x4's and ATV's working together to break down some fo the walls between us. We'll all need to be on the same page and working together to keep our trails from being shut down. This is a great place to foster that teamwork.

I'll bring my trailer out and haul a car back to Anchorage for disposal... It's a 18' so I can only get one car on it....

What is it typically like that time of year there as far as water levels and creek crossings? I imagine most of the trash is pretty close to the parking lots, but can you cross Jim Creek?

We went out past Friday creek two days ago and didn't see a single vehicle out there. I was rather surprised. The place looked great. It shows the impact this event has made over the years.

I have been wanting to help out every year, but I am always on slope. I am not working that weekend and will be there. I can bring Brian's trailer to haul out a car.

As for another location that has been used for dumping, 2B2P cleaned up near the Goosebay Airport by Point Mckenzie. Maybe a second run to that location could be worked out.

"way high water" There's no water really out there, a car could cross Jim Creek. There's never high water out there in May. Highwater doesn't come till July. All the crossings are shallow up to the glacier. I sit and watch the Knik rise everyday but that has nothing to do with the other water going up to the glacier-yet
