The info all came from one of my college books from when I went to school for truck and equipment repair. It's a few years old, but the info is correct, not like wheels have changed all that much.

Engine vs. motor
Clip vs. mag
Snowmobile vs. snowmachine
Crescent vs. adjustable wrench
Allen vs. hex key
On and on and on....

There are universally accepted (until someone decides to split hairs, or just likes to argue ) words that may have a technically specific meaning but are used more broadly or as slang. Talk about rims to practically anyone into autos and they know what you are referring to.
