Have to love finding boxs of parts in front of my door.

Just need a couple more things and I'll be ready to start on the front end.

Jeep sprung a coolant leak last time out, figured it was time to fix it.

20 year old plastic = brittle

Had to make sure it was all good to go... So we went for a trip in the new snow.

Picked up some axles for it a while back. I seem to be building this from other peoples left over parts.

locked d30 front non disco with 3.73's
welded xj d44 3.73 rear with chromoly shafts

plan on converting the rear to disks before putting it under the jeep.

Picked up new bushings for the UCA mounts on the d30, just need to get around to installing them.

I don't think I really needed it, but I ordered a rugged ridge SYE kit anyways. Figured if I'm going to build this, might as well make an attempt at doing it right.

Nice find. I picked up a Ford 8.8 from Northwest about 2 weeks ago.

What locker is in that D30?

I believe I was told it is a lockright. I have not pulled the covers to check them out yet.

Picked up a zj rear end for the disk brakes, now I just need to make them work on the xj d44.

Lockrite in front and welded rear.
I should have an extra 3.73 LS 8.8 and a couple install kits for the 8.8s
too.

Never wheeled there before, I'm not even sure where that is! I'm down to go if I get this pos ready to go before then.

I doubt I'll make the run. Got a call and have to cover for someone at work, so I fly out tomorrow AM, but I get to come back Wednesday. Spent today packing and getting things ready rather then working on the jeep.

Finally got around to pulling the covers on those axles tonight.

Found that they are 3.55's.

Rear end was about to self destruct. Lol. Most the welds are cracked, and I found one gear was cracked (top gear in first pic) R/P looked ok. Do the xj d44 rear use the same gears as a chevy or ford 44 front? May consider putting a spool in it. Or filling a currier with random metal and spend a few hours laying down some beads.

On the bright side of things, the gears, locker.. Heck even the fluid looked brand new in the front end.

You could still re weld up that rear and get many many more miles out of it. That is hardly what I would call a Linoln Locked rear. Ive never had a single Lincoln Locker fail on me (that Ive done anyways). But when Im done with em, they look like a spool lol. Gears from a GM or any low pinion front D44 should work. I would still with a GM set. Just because I know those are the same gears. Ford HP should be reverse cut and will not work. GM front D44s are pretty easy to find. A new gearset from Yukon (Randys) is about 303.00 for 3.54s, and about 76.00 for an install kit.

There are cheaper gear sets out there. Ive just been all over Randys and Yukon the last couple days trying to get someone else's rig back together. Wish I had some extra GM stuff laying around. Maybe check Metal In Motion for a front D44. Probably could even get a rear for near 300 bucks complete. Pop the diff cover before buying. Use yours for spare parts.

I'v been searching around, and went ahead and ordered a Yukon mini spool for it. Cheap, easy install and should hold up to 33s no problem. Everything else looked fine in there other then the spider gears, which wont be a problem soon as the mini spool shows up.

How'd the shocks work out for you? If you want the OMEs you can have em. They'll be going in the trash if you don't want em.

They are a lot better then what I had for sure!

If you going to toss those OME's I'll take them, have a buddy that is kicking around the idea of putting a little lift on his xj.

Looks like it's time to figure out a new front bumper. newest addition to the jeep... a gopro on the roof, which makes my jeep about 10 times cooler then it was.. lol.

Thats what drove me to build my bumper. Make sure you buy or make a pair of tie-ins since i'm sure you ripped the bolts through the mounts like i did.
