All of you have good points & ideas. One thing that has me thinking about all the trails is the possable Natural Gas line that is trying to be pushed from Glennallen to Palmer. "If" this thing get's the OK we will see big changes to all the trails we know along that project. Please take the time to look into this & think about how this can be one of the largest probs we will likely face soon. http://66.102.7.104/search?q=cache:d...ek+trail&hl=en

It will help some to have a map next to them as they read that above to see how it "NGPL" will be run. Give me your ideas.

Start small and build up with learning stuff on this one and apply it to the other more "fragile" trail systems.

I like Taz's idea of revitalizing the lost connectors. It just would have to happen carefully.
Thatís something we have been looking into. If we can reconnect some trails back to the main roads, we could effectively, reduce the amount of trail usage by half. But that is for another year.

Good job Rescue, it helps show what a mess the Matanuska Valley is as far as land ownership is concerned.

Thanks for laying this out so nice Rescue. I think anything is possable & the money talks when land is needed for projects. If all was OK they has mentioned about doing work this year. My fear is that all the trails along this will be altered so they are able to drive equipment in to dig & reshape the land. Trevor has been in a lot of places on foot & has seen more than I have but I know "IF" this thing happens they will stir up a mess in Chitna Pass. I see now way they can run this without visable damage to miles of untouched land.

I'm confused why they are talking about building this year.

My understanding is this spur line would only happen
If the trans-alaska gas pipeline was constructed
If the pipeline followed the "all Alaskan" route down to Valdez
If this spur project was approved

I could see construction happening concurrently, but to my knowledge the gas-line route from the Northslope has not been finalized yet.

Or am I totally off base, can anyone fill me in on what I'm missing? Is there already a gas line they can tie into in Glennallen?

I have found more info on this & still need to make a call or 2 to see if I can find out what or when they have this thing in the works. I did find some info in a link that said they would start work on this project this year. I will post it here in a few. Im searching for the link now.

"ANGDA intends to be ready to start pre-construction activities, involving centerlinestaking, developing gravel sites and staging areas for permanent pipeline materials, during the summer/fall of 2006. Construction in the area that is designated for winter." I will post the link for that as well. I have been listening to the news & waiting to hear word on this poject for a while. All I ever hear is talk about the gas they are trying to "TAKE" out of Alaska. http://66.102.7.104/search?q=cache:A...e+alaska&hl=en

I will be in the house for this one. It would be nice to see this in person & get a chance to ask questions about a very sensitive matter. A lot can change on our trails if this get's a go ahead. Thank you for keeping all up to date Scott.
