Default KB29 Crash memorial and thank you celebration.

Hello all. Most here are familiar with the fine work many of you did in contributing to, planning, and placing the memorial plaque on the crashed KB29 up on Baldy Mountain.

13 family members of those who perished in the crash will be here in August. They will be here at various times from the 8th to the 15th. None of these folks have seen the crash site. Many never knew the full story. They are here to pay their last respects. The wife of the pilot who is now in her late 70's and on oxygen is coming. She will not be denied. Alaska Extreme Fourwheelers will be taking these fine folks to the crash site for a private memorial.

On Monday August 14th, at 7pm everyone is invited to the VFW hall in Eagle River for a chance to meet these folks, and watch a very powerfull power point presentation on the crew and the circumstances surrounding the crash. There won't be a dry eye in the place. These relatives want to say thankyou to all those that are helping to close this chapter in their lives. Please try and attend and receive the thanks all of you who have contributed so richly deserve.

If there is enough interest we can make this a potluck meal. That way dinner won't be a concern and there will be less of a rush to get there by 7pm.

The VFW hall is visible from the highway heading out of Anchorage just after you cross the bridge over Eagle River. Take the south ER entrance and turn right at the first light. Continue past the Firestation and the VFW hall will be on your right. Mark this on your calandar.

Just so there is no confusion, this is open to any and all that wish to hear and learn more about the crash. All are welcome.

Sounds very nice. As a contributor to that plaque I wish I could make it, I just found out I'll probably be on the Slope for most of August...

Please take photos if allowed. Maybe if we could get a hold of the Power Point or something that would be cool too so those who can't make it can view it too.

How is the wife going to get out there? The ride up the trail and then the walk might be too much for her, is she going to be helicoptered in? That's very cool to be able to see the place and the plane that her husband perished in, even though it's sad, it's closure.

We'll have my van and two moose buggies. Also we will have all the club members rigs that are going. Once up to the edge of the trail they will transfer to the moose buggys and crawl over to the site. The rest will walk over. This is all weather dependant. Helicopters have been discussed if the weather is bad.

Ya know, even a flyover in a light plane would be better than nothing. Hope the weather holds up. I am off work in Aug. and would be available for trips during the week. I only have room for one passenger but I'd be happy to be a support vehicle if nothing else.

If Helocopters and or Small plane's are needed, i have the names of a couple GOOD pilots that might be willing to do it for charity or the price of fuel...

2 helo pilots and one 180 pilot... if needed i'd gladly PM their contact info.

Dan...If things work out I should be there...My boy's and I were not able to be there because of a situation outside our control, for the placing of the memorial even though they had been following it from the very first time it was mentioned and we had been planning on it from the very start, ..

If there is anything that I can do to help, please let me know...

I am only 10 minutes from the trail head...

Visiting the crash site is very sobering and placing that plaque was the least that we could do to pay respects to our fallen heros.

I would like to say a big thank you to Chaz for heading up this project, without his research and dedication, it would have never happened.

Let's just hope for the weather to be the best it can be & I am sure the big rigs can make it over without tearing the soft ground. "IF" the weather is bad we will make the best of it. Thanks you all that had made the trip & took the risk on the way down the mountain after a good rain.

What day are you guys planning on heading up to the site?

We wheeled into the site the two years Jeep Jamboree USA was up here - awesome ride.
With Gus and Diane as our guides, we had a blast!
Are they the buggoes that will be making the run with you?

We have plans for that weekend already, but if there is ANY way to incorporate it in, we're there!!!!!
I guess in some ways, it's good us FBX guys were "forced" to jump onto your board. I guess I'll have to start looking up all the crew and see how many are on here!

We do. However this is simply to take the family members up to the site. Not really a trailrun. I'd like to keep it to a minimum for their sake.

Everyone is more than welcome to come out Monday evening to the VFW in Eagle River to meet the family members. They really want to meet all of you that made this possible. Plan on coming out!

Very good chance the Military Honor Guard will be present. Things are starting to come together.

Does anyone have access to a large screen we can project on to? If so please post up.

Please mark August 14th 7pm on your calandars. Eagle River VFW. These folks really want to meet everyone involved with this project and to say thanks. All are welcome and encouraged to attend! Come find out some history on a local trail we like to run.
