Default Brewing Setup

So what do you use? Post up some pics

Pic 1 Keg kettle for brewing mini mash and extract beers. Works great for 5 gallon batch can get a really nice rolling boil going and not worry about boil overís. Need to bend a pour lip on it or put a valve on the bottom. Still need to try a 10 gallon batch...

Pic 2 MMMM Beer...

Pic 3 Customized 500,000 BTU weed burner burner

Pic 4 Thought it was a cool pic

Oh good, I was going to make that suggestion. You would have some seriously caramelized sugar otherwise.

Pssst, your weed plant is showing in the last picture.

They are actually both members of the cannabis family.

Where are you finding an affordable 10 - 15 gallon kettle? I get by with my 5 gallon kettle all right so far.

Beer kegs are 304 food grade stainless. I just cut the top off and welded on the handles. How much are you looking to spend on a kettle?

Did you weld the handles yourself?

Let me know when you go to add a valve, I might have an extra coupling you can use as a bung.

Looks good, like the modified burner.

Yeah, a converted keg is far cheaper, and probably just as good.

If you are patient, just watch craigslist and ask around with friends, a keg will turn up. My brother and I accumulated several that way.

For those that brew with extract how many of you do a mini-mash instead of just steeping grains? I did that last time with the apple brew I just made and I was amazed at how easy it was and how well it worked although it did take a considerable amount of time longer. My target pre-boil gravity was 1.010 and I ended up with 1.020.

Makes me want to jump right into all grain brewing.

Here's my apple beer going to town.

My sorry looking collection of bottles. I need to get busy, I have 4 different kinds there but they are all running low except for the one I just bottled.

Hey Noah, are you needing more bottles? I have a ton laying around that I ain't gonna be using anytime soon. Need to get off my *** and do a batch or two myself. Maybe this weekend I will pull everything out and get on it.

I have tons of empty bottles, over a hundred at least. I have been keeping my eye out for a cheap keg set up.

Not really, you should be able to get everything you need for around $200 to get started. Here's some links to the local brew shop.

http://www.arcticbrewingsupply.com/s...#anchor1509644

http://www.arcticbrewingsupply.com/recipes.html

That should give you an idea. The only thing missing in the kit is a brew kettle and you want the biggest one you can afford. I got my nice clad bottom 5 gallon kettle at Sams Club in the restaurant supply isle for $68 which is a pretty good deal for a stainless kettle.

Oh and something to put it in when it's done too. Bottles are pretty easy to come by and the kit comes with a capper and caps.

Holy crap... I average about two 12 packs a week lately. That's about $25 a week which is $1,300 a year not including money wasted at the bar. That's probably about $30 a week, minimum. That's $1,560 a year for bar money. I'm spening about $3,000 a year on beer. It's kind of scary when you actually sit back and add it up. Oh well, you can't put a price on happiness!
