Default 6.0 head gaskets

How do I know without pulling the heads if I have 18 or 20mm dowells?

From other sources

"The switch to the 20mm dowels was late Jan '06"

"If your truck has a "yellow circle" type dipstick, along with four "UFO shaped" nuts that secure the FICM to the FICM bracket, you have a late-build 2006 engine which uses 20mm engine block dowels which mandates Ford gasket part number 6C3Z-6051-AA.

If your truck has a black "TEE handle" type dipstick, along with an upper metal bracket that secures the FICM and air intake to the lower front FICM bracket, as well as another upper bracket at the back side of the engine, chances are you have an engine that uses 18mm dowels in the block that requires the more expensive 4C3Z-6051-EB part number."

Well someone knows how to use google lol.

That information is a base line to go off of, 05 was kind of a ******* year for the 6.0, since there where changes made between 04-06. Ford also makes a stepper dowl that is 18/20mm mostly used when haeads where changed.

The best way to find out take the vin from the vehicle the engine came from, go to ford have them do an as-built on the dowl part number. That will come back with the exact part ford put in at the factory. You can also ask for an oasis with the vin, that will tell you what was performed under warranty.

yes I found that info on google too and found it not 100% reliable. Using the VIN and going to dealer is the kind of tip I was looking for.
