Default my 66 Chevy Caprice build

so i had been kicking arund the idea of tearing the drive train out of my 74 gmc truck and ls swapping it and fixing some misc things i had cheap'd out on when i built it, due to budget restrictions at the time, picked up a couple of LS engines, then got the idea, i need a car. so i put up a wanted add, and jam packed my cell and email, from the good, to the bad to the ugly.

i found this one on CL in wasilla, took me 2 weeks to call the guy, did some homework on the car, parts etc, what i wanted to do with it, called the guy, had a family member who lives in wasilla go take a look at it, he said everything the guy selling it was legit and the body is pretty clean and freeish of rust, so i drove down with a trailer to get it

it was originally a 3 on the tree car with im guessing a 283 or 6 cylinder, as it only has 3 links in the back, 327 and up got 4(thats what the interwebs say) factory a/c.

it currently has a rebuilt "327" block numbers and front pad numbers say 69-70 350 block, but maybe a crank from a 307, edelbrock manifold and carb, a rebuilt muncie M20 4 speed with a hurst shifter, sfi scatter shield, custom trans cross member (aftermarket?), a "new" 12 bolt posi, 3.08 gears, new carpet and some small parts from Year One in the car, the a/c is all there and is hooked up and i believe it works, i havent tried it, but everything spins and the clutch works, all the wiring was done nicly, electric fuel pump

came with the 3 speed gear box, a driveline, 2 trans crossmembers and the original center console in the trunk, interior is in ok shape, back seat has some holes, some panels need love but all the small parts are there, as well as a new headliner

worst area for rust is the drivers front quarter bottom, needs a patch panel, no big, rest is surface or less and left fender is from a different car

the plans...get the body off, clean up and coat the frame, new suspension stuff all the way around, some more modern stuff, disc brakes.

get the body cleaned up and painted, save as much of the chrome pieces as i can, car will be a matte black, and im going to crash course body work and paint

not sure how much of the original interior i am going to keep, going to add a roll cage to it, so we will see.

motor will be my lq9 block i have in the garage, built to a 408, with some 66 ish mm turbos to force feed it, paired to a t56 or tr 6060 manual trans. its going to take a long, long long time to finish it completly, my goal is to have it safe enough to drive it next summer with current power trainand taking care of the inside sheet metal

Was this the "partially restored" one on craigslist? Looks like a good start!

also got some rear tires, 275/60/15 cooper cobras, still havent decided on a front tire size yet

small update.

went with a 215/70/15 tire in the front, removed front coils and cut 1 coil off. really wanted to see how the car sits with the back end up higher, and i like it so ill prob get some drop spindles for it.

also got all 4 gauges working int he center console. speedo works, once i got the right size driven gear and a cable, did some checking on the timing as i was suspect that it was advanced too high. wasnt even on the timing tab, timing tab goes to 16 or 18, cant remember, got it dialed into about 12-14, it has an old school mallory unilite distributer and coil, mad a couple small adjustments to the carb and shes ready to go

been driving it to work most days, clutch is at the end of the pedal, but oh well, just needs to make it through summer, then ill pull the motor and trans and sell them off and start really building the car

been pretty busy, getting it ready for winter, got the body stripped and the body and frame separated have some frame damage in the back, as well on the body. plan is to start on the frame, get it cleaned up and coated in por-15 or something similar.

going to pick up a currie 9'' that drops into the B body, then get into suspension stuff

I always like the exterior form of Caprice. Any updates on your project?
