Still plugging along. Nothing that makes for good pics. Just lots of little stuff to chip away at. Ran air from tank to manifold, to switches (non electric) in dash, to lockers and tested ok. Converted the ARBS to 1/4" line. Ran vent lines from everything up into a central place in the back of the cab. Ran brake lines and tested. Rear master cylinder was too small and upsize to 1.125". It works the F550 calipers much better. Front pinion brake caliper leaks and needs to be replaced. All the parts are fit so tight that a bunch a crap has to be taken off to remove the caliper. Bad design and has me looking for a different idea. Stuffed the old motor in cause I got tired of tripping over it. New KRC steering pump required a custom 13/16" spacer to align the pulleys. Got the steering column in. Would like it a few inches longer so I might do a cut and splice to make it easier to reach with my stubby arms.

Need to find, buy or build a power steering fluid reservoir. I'd like to use one tank for both winch and steering but don't know if I can find a fluid that will work for both systems.

Good deal man. Sounds like you are making headway. All the small things is what takes the longest. Can't wait to see this thing in person again.

Nothing notable or picture worthy. Need to make a couple big purchases and been dragging my feet. Got a different motor installed. Had to add a return port to the fuel tank. Ready to work on wiring.

update. Got a tbi sbc installed, wired and running. Wiring is a mess and still a bunch to add for gauges, fan controls, wipers etc... Had trouble with the hydro steering, disassembled and reassembled the orbital and works now. Not the power I expected out of the steering but it seems to work.

Next time home I'll be tightening nuts & bolts, filling t-case & axles and maybe it'll move under its own power!

And as a side project I got a 4bt for later

I just couldn't help myself. It was so close that I ignored all my other responsibilities and continued wrenching. I was in the shop till after midnight and out there again most of today. Too bad I go to work tomorrow.

There is still an enormous amount of detail work to complete, like some front suspension it is sitting on temporary bump stops in the video. Before rolling it I put the rear up on stands and watched the wheels turn. The rear diff makes a clunking noise, kinda like u-joint bind but I didn't find any contact. Seems to happen when there is 'slack' in the DL. Also the rear arb is not disengaging.

If I didn't have the 4bt rigged up in the doorway I would have gone down the road Good thing tho cause I forgot the hood was on the roof. Only breakage was the front axle vent line hit the crank pulling and it cut thru

After all these years seeing it move on its own was pretty nice.

Drove the rig around the yard today and have some design flaws to work out...

Would like a different spring setup for the rear but if I can figure a way to guide the posts back into the spring I might run with this for a while

Springs in front are WAY too stiff. It'll sway when running down the road but the flex sux. Would help if I could weigh the corners

The muffler is just something I had laying around and is tied on w/rope

That's been suggested and after some more talk last night I started looking again. The rolling lobe seems like the type to use. They come in all kinds of sizes (in fact so many it's hard to choose) and are priced 150-250 ea. What is really cool is the kind with internal bump stops. The big question is will the rubber hold up?

Scot,
Nice build, and you should be proud. Every ground up build will have some issues. Is your concern with the rear coils keeping them on the mounts? If so, a fix might be to mount a limit strap or cable attached at each end of the spring and running through the center. The length of the limit strap could prevent the spring from escaping. A simple thing to try until you decide on a permanent fix.
I can relate to long term projects, I've been gathering parts for 6-7 years for my CJ6. I had made up my mind what I wanted and the components I wanted to use. The only change I have made is going to YJ springs from the original CJ 9 leaf springs. I am still gathering parts! Good luck

I looks forward to getting the tires dirty It's got the 350-tbi I got from you in it. It runs just fine

The 4bt has some issues. My dad and I tore it down and found the cylinders are 32 tho over. It was reman'd by cummins and they put std pistons and 30 over rings. Talk about poorboy rebuilding
