(Just kiddin'...so what's the scoop Rob?)

My black '85 CJ-7 will always remain stockish. I needed to replace the springs when I was in high school, so this is hardly the beginning of a build on that Jeep. I ordered a few other maintenance things (cowl seal, mirrors) and a trick stainless fuel door. That's it. The black CJ-7 is still relatively nice, and I kinda want to leave it the way that it was when my dad gave it to me in high school.

The dash panel is the beginning of a whole new project, inspired by the 5th crack found in my '84 CJ-7 frame after a run to Boulder this summer. Magnets will not stick to that dash. Note how thick it is.

Hopefully I'll have another pic up tonight.

I hate secret projects too. As soon as I get another pic snapped and up, it's not going to be secret. Or you can just swing by 5-Star and see the part for yourself. I just wanted to bring the dash home last night because it didn't require the use of a pickup or a forklift.

Six months into this build thread, that thread title is going to seem silly.

I have nothing useful to add here.

I didn't get a pic tonight since we didn't go to the shop to pick up the tub, so I'll spill:

I've ordered a galvanized CJ-8 frame to go under an aluminum CJ-8 tub, with new steel out front. My locked running gear from my orange CJ-7 will go into this frame/body. The aluminum tub and dash arrived at 5-Star yesterday afternoon.

So who wants to do some painting? I still need a good shop to paint the frame, and perhaps to do the rest of the body.

I think he should just clear coat the tub leaving the natural finish.

Of course the front steel fenders and such wouldn't match.

that would look cool with glossy painted fenders and accessories to match
