Default Opinions on sport tires?

Was just curious what you guys are running on your go fast cars. It's time to get new tires for my Camaro and being the broke college kid I am I'm doing a lot of research to make sure I get the best tire for the money.

First off, I'm not sure if I want a summer tire, or all-weather tire. I only plan to drive the camaro during the summer (+1 summer tires) But it always seems to be cold here, so a tire that starts loosing grip around 40* would kinda suck. It would also be nice not to worry about flash snowfalls come fall (+1 all weather) Same goes for rain

All the Fbody Camaro guys swear by Goodyear Eagle F1's... but those are $1000

I've been looking at Firestone wide oval indy 500, $620 which is much better... but the reviews while mostly positive, are all over the place.

I could also get Fuzion ZRi tires that match my 245/50r16 size. And I'm sure there's others.

Any recommendations?

I ran the ZRi's on my SR fed 240. They worked well for a daily driver/sticky tire... even better at long track drift events lol.

I ran a set of the Zris on my WRX and they were complete **** in cold, rain, snow, well actually for everything! The are cheap, round, black and hold air... I guess good for that?

I run Dunlop Star Specs on my Elise and they work pretty good. Takes a bit to get them real sticky, though expected with the cold temps up here and running them on a very light car (2000lbs with driver)

unless it's gonna be a sunny day only car or a seperate set of tires just for track/HPDE, I'd stick with an performance oriented all-season (ok, maybe 3 season) tire.

true performance tires are too soft for a daily driver, and don't offer enough tread when it gets wet. Also, you really can't legally take advantage of the extra tire you get for the money in AK, unless you go to some closed circuit and that doesn't happen that often.

sorry I can't offer my opinion on what you should get, theres alot of options out there.

Oh no, no racing... I beat my friends Nissan Altima on the highway once though, that was pretty fun. This is strictly for weekend duty going out driving, though if the weather is nice enough I'll try to daily drive it.

Where is there to race or have some fun? I'd love to learn to drive better. I know we have the drag strip by I want to do a road course..

Nate, if you tag your videos with 16:9 or something like that it'll put them in widescreen. Of course that would show how fat I've gotten, oh well.

Edit: here, I believe the tag is yt:stretch=16:9

http://alicious.com/youtube-aspect-ratio-wrong/

Black Bronco, I believe that was ryanman's ariel cam footage, as well as his cobra in the second video.

I'll be at tanacross this spring, driving something a little different. (nothing on track though, unfortunately) Hope to see some AK4x4network people there!
