Default The scoop on draw hunts?

ADF&G has stats on the likelihood of '"winning" their draw hunts. Most are in the 1% chance ball park. A couple at 3% and I saw one at 11%(!!).

I've heard speculation on factors that influence likelihood. I believe that it is ADF&G's stated position that there are no influential factors, that the draw is strictly random (unless you're Rick Sinnott and can manage to draw 1% sheep hunt THREE years in a row). Thoughts?

Secondly why, even if it's "cheap", would anyone pay for a 1% chance? Do you mean to tell me that I can send my money off every year for 100 years and maybe someday I'll get lucky? I've been doing it for quite a few years and I'm starting to feel it's more like a annual donation.

This on the heels of me having just sent in my $74 annual donation.

I've got to say this, I have heard of these hunts and the issue with the drawing and I seriously doubt I'll ever be willing to pay for such nonsense. I really hope the best for whoever forfeits themselves to it, but seriously why at those odds?

I drew a moose tag the second year I put in for the drawing! There was a 2% success ratio for that hunt, since then I have wasted my money for the last 7 years...

Whoops, way to dredge up a post from the past!!! 2011 !!

I've been making the annual "donation" every year for over 10 years. $60-$75 per year. Never drawn for anything. This year I got drawn for muzzle loader either sex moose on Ft Rich, AND the Wild Creek goat tag here in Kodiak.

It's just the "luck of the draw". Some guys get lucky early. I finally got mine.

I don't mind having made the donations all this time. The money goes into conservation for keeping our ability to hunt/fish and maintain our lifestyle into the future.

I don't get the luck of the draw thing, I have one co worker that had gotten an any bull hunt three out of five years applying and a cow hunt one other year. My buddy Steve just filled his bison tag this week, he still has a sheep tag for this year, last year he drew goat and muskox the year before that brown bear and another sheep tag. That's not luck of the draw when your upset that you only get one tag a year rather than two

That's just stupid blind luck. My wife's that way. She wins everything she puts in for. It makes me sick. She put in for the Saltery Cove bear hunt once. Got drawn, along with the other 6 people on planet earth. She has put in for a cow moose tag in Wasilla/Big Lake twice. Got drawn both times, along with the other 11 or so people out of how many. She bought a raffle ticket for the sweet 16 NRA gun raffle at Crabfest. She won a gun. The following year, she bought two tickets. Won TWO of the 16 guns, and was the first name drawn (first choice). A couple of years later, she dropped $100 on a ticket for the classic car drawing. Won a show winning '58 Chevy Belair Impala. Sold the car to the owner of a rod shop in South Carolina for $42,500.

I could go on. Stupid, blind luck. Some people have it.
