Default Whittier 8/6-8/8

Smokin fishin trip with our ladies.

Started at the a 5:30am Whittier tunnel w/tired peoples but the calm water got us jazzed. The run out was smooth thank goodness `cause it was 3 hours to where I had planned to take these folks. 40 gallons of fuel later we arrived at a coordinate that I had decided on in my boat prior to the trip. The women got baited and sent the gear down first and were shocked at instant hookups! They both nailed halibut in the 30-35# range and went right back down and did it again...ultimately limiting in 20-30 minutes including fight time. I sent my gear down during their second fish...meanwhile Rob was running back and forth with the gaff and made their second fishes a boat triple. Just wide open bite with quality fish. To add insult Rob`s wife hooked up again right about the time Rob`s bait hit the bottom and it was a big fish. About 20 minutes later she had her largest halibut to date...85#s. As things weren`t hot enough already, I nailed a 49# lingcod. To keep in short...we fished and released halibut til we hurt and needed some grub. We drifted down the passage and mooched for silver but there was only pinks so we decided to pop on anchor in an adjacent bay and hung there all afternoon and night.

Started the next morning a bit colder and with rain but we shot back up to the spot. The anchor was giving us some grief and we slid right out of the spot we were on the prior day so we moved and finally got the correct position. As before the halibut were on the bite and pulled another 51"/50# ling...life was good. We had to call it a day at 2 but not until after some rockfish and silver action.

As usual there were some pics...on the next post.
