That rig is in Fox. Off the Steese Hyw right across the street from the pipeline visitors center.

you can see the family resemblance in the Snow Cruiser, and he learned to make it lighter and put some tread on the tires . The rims on the Snow Train - aluminum?

Looks like junkyard petes. Those have been there awhile. IT would be cool to restore something like that.

Come to think of it the old spit wagon parked down on the Homer spit had a set of those tires and axles on it.

Interesting to know a bit more history about that spit wagon.

i would but location im in kenai this thing is in fairbanks any ideas and people willing maybe a type of meet and greet weekend of restore on the spot?

It ran up until two years ago. Pete and a friend got the motors running. Yes it is for sale. If it is not bought it will surely go to scrap metal prices. Moving it out would cost some money. A couple years ago Pete was wanting $60,000. I imagine it could be bought for $20-30,000. It is actually in pretty descent shape. MooseBgy said he was interested. But I am sure he wouldn't mind if someone else had the cash to preserve the history and keep it in Alaska.

Generators are Cheap , I can get some gensets up to 400KW for reasonable prices

I work For Alaska Village Electric . All 53 of our villages have at least 3 gensets and were always replacing and upgrading alot of the times we take out good running units and discard them because there to small or Inefficent

(I could easily hack around it, but I dun wanna get in no trouble)

My father tells me about these all the time, they used them when he was a fresh faced twentysomething in the 60's on the North Slope. They went all over doing seismic work from some of these in the dead of winter. They worked from them and in them, and lived in them. They even had toilets which dropped right out onto the tundra apparently. My pop says you ain't lived til someone opens the bathroom door and you get the rush of -70 degree air rushing UP from the toilet!

Very cool pics, and hopefully vids I'll watch later at home, as I'd never seen one to know exactly what he was talking about really. I'd seen a few on the slope still, but they are newer, these look to be the older ones he talks about.

I wonder if the Transportation Museum in Wasilla knows about that. It would be a great attraction and it is part of Alaska's history.

Wow cool, that's just the place I was thinking of as I re-read this thread. If they could get a tractor and at least one cargo trailer up and in presentable condition where you could walk through it that'd be one heck of a display. My pops would probably enjoy it too, it'd being back memories of his youth on the Slope, good or bad I don't know.
