Probably wouldn't be very effective om thick ice or rocks.....

They make them with spikes on the bottom. Thats about the only way to get a tow truck to hold still while winching a dumbas$ out of the ditch or off the edge.

Ian,
Used them on my tow trucks in Florida, lot different than here, LOL , no experience using chocks in Alaska! Not a lot of ice or rocks in Florida!

Those are awesome anchors! About 10 years ago deep in nikiski I had to use a big flatbed roller deck truck with a massive mid mounted PTO winch with 1" cable to pull the upper connex off the bottom connex and threw about 100 feet of muddy woods, downed trees and small trees to get to the loading spot. The truck was easily pulled back before the cable and chains got close to making it move. My boss chained those pads to the rear bumper and backed over'm. Didn't move at all. Just dug in, squatted hard and did a few wheelies as the connex hit a few hard spots.

They would be useful only on a harder surface when you don't have an anchor and need to winch someone else out. I.e. rarely

Work great on ice! I have used them on tow trucks from one ton to heavies.
