Default Survival books and movies...

Name good movies you've seen that involve some type of survival scenario. The whole movie doesn't have to be about survival, just something that you know survival minded people would enjoy. Doesn't have to be realistic, most films aren't.

I'll start off with the one that everyone has seen... "Red Dawn".

After that...

"I am Legend" (Fresh Prince yo)
"Dawn of the Dead" (2004 version)
"The Edge." (in Alaska )
"The Postman" (yeah whatever I liked it so screw you)
"Deliverance" (You got a purdy mouth boy)
"Tremors" (only because of the husband/wife survivalists)
"Cast Away" (Tom Hanks is the man!)

Death Hunt with Charles Bronson and Lee Marvin.

Not a movie, but Last of the Breed by Louis L'Amour is a great Cold War era survival story. Read it if you haven't!

Funny you should mention that. I just started watching the second season again today on CBS.com. There are 7 episodes on season two, I'm watching number 4 right now. You can watch them all for free online anytime you want. Not DVD size or quality but they're free. I have the connecting cord for my lap top and 32" plasma so I run them on my computer and watch them on my TV. One of my favorite shows ever... it should have got a third season.

Rented that one tonight. It was alright but the characters didn't have their priorities straight. They were carrying baseball bats and machetes. I know it was based in England but you'd think there would atleast be a police station near by to steal some weapons/supplies. There were vehicles everywhere yet the one they use to big out is a P.O.S. car. Oh and I think the director might be gay, there was too much male nudity and not even one naked chick

I'd like to see a movie where the first thing the people do is go around gathering the necessary weapons/supplies if they don't have it. Break into a place like Sportsman's Wharehouse and take everything you think you might need instead of walking around with a baseball bat and a pack of skittles.

"I am Legand" was good in that area. His character took the time to gather and organize supplies/food/weapons/shelter/vehicles. If anyone hasn't seen it, it's definitely worth the $5 to rent.

"The Omega Man". the orginal "I am Legend" is pretty good too, if you dont mind the zombie cultist people.

Soylent Green. more of a social satire, but along the same lines.

I just watched "Equilibrium" staring Christian Bale. Really good movie, a lot of good gun play scenes even though they weren't exactly realistic. It's a Matrix style movie but worth renting, I just came across it on the shelf of old movies at the store. Came out in 2002, I can't believe I never heard of it before... probably cause it came out when I was in tech school down in Texas and I was too busy studying to be watching movies. Worth watching though.
