Default What was your daily preparation today? Check in daily!

So I frequent some other forums that have a thread like this. It works well, keeps me on my toes and thinking about stuff I should be doing.

I am of the mind that if you spend 15 minutes per day now, it could add months to your life down the road.

It can be as simple as "I bought 10 cans of Garbanzo Beans and put them into the stockpile." to "I practiced at my BOL/BIL for 2 weeks"

So lets hear it. I know lots of people on this board so it is way more personal and easy for me to share, than some of the big forums.

Today, I spent about an hour working on my readyness spreadsheet. I looked up the prices and location for the best deal on many items.

I am at work so I can't really go get much but I can be ready to do so when I get home!

Did some research on which canned goods to buy. Hormel and Delmonte have the longest shelf life. Cambells is only good for a couple years.

Living in an apartment and moving every year or two makes it unappealing to stock an abundance of food and supplies which must be moved, but I like to update my gear and keep an eye on prices.

Great place to start for a beginner looking for very reasonably priced canned goods...

This is one of my favorite sites for purchasing little nic-nac's and gadgets which I'll rarey use but are just too cool to pass up...

As for what I did recently... I've been going back and forth on purchasing a new CC weapon (if you want to count that as a prep). I have been wanting to for a while but couldn't justify it considering a couple other things I've been paying off but I'm pretty sure I'll go ahead and get it next month. I've already got full size pistols so I want something small enough to go in my pocket or the wife's purse. I am pretty much decided on the new Kahr CM9.

It is basically the PM9 but made a little cheaper to reduce the price tag by a couple hundred bucks. It has different rifling in the barrel and the etching on the slide is done in a less expensive manner to save cost. Cabelas has a special on them for $450 right now so I think that will probably be my Christmas gift to myself.

I considered the gay thing for a while because Nolan is so pretty, but I decided I liked vagina too much to give it up lol. I got married in florida this fall to a girl I've been with for about two years now. What's sort of funny is that all of my buddies who made it down there for the wedding were guys from the Air Force that I met in Alaska. Parsons, Morgan and Corral (two of which have gone off-roading with me several times in AK).

As for the Sig... I have owned a couple and I like them a lot. Very well built and reliable weapons. I considered the Sig 238 for a long time but it is a little heavier due to it's construction, plus it's a .380 rather than 9mm, which is my preference. I am used to shooting Glocks and I like that the Kahr feels similair to a Glock, but smaller. I just can't get on the .45 caliber bandwagon yet.

Included is a pic of me and the wife in Florida and a pic of me and some of the fellas.

On the bright side of prepping... we move into a new apartment next month which is much bigger and allows more space for organization and storage of camping gear, canned goods, etc. The place we're in now has felt a little cramped and we're looking forward to having more space. You can't underestimate the need for room when stocking supplies! I have to say it also helps a lot when the wife is on board and supportive of being prepared for the unknown, whether that be a bad winter storm or complete chaos from SHTF. She fully agrees with anything I do for being prepared and I really appreciate that.

Well congrats, bud! Having a good woman is an awesome thing to have in your life. I took 14 years to find mine.

Today, I am researching wood stoves. Gonna put one in the house.

I woke up this morning.

I used to be big into prepping for the zombie apocolypse, armegeddon or whatever. But over the last year I've fell off that quite a bit.

But maybe I'll buy me some Honady Zombie Maxx Ammo today.

Pretty basic, but I bought several boxes of kitchen matches and placed them on all levels of the house, for lighting candles, fires, kerosene lamps etc. cheap and require no external energy sources. I've also picked up some cheap LED headlamps that operate on 3 AAA batteries, battery life outside in below freezing temps is in excess of 8 hours.

I picked up a roadkill moose last night. Got it hung up and it's waiting on me to come home from work to process it. Long term prep, not really. But if something happens soon I'll have some extra meat to feed my family.

Worked some OT last night and added a few bucks to my next paycheck. Trying to become debt free and I'm making good progress but still have a ways to go. Bought some small storage racks for more organization in the house.

Prepped the ZJ for winter since I drive the car most of the year. Checked the fluids, rotated tires, new U-joints on the drive shafts, new headlights, new wiper blades, rewound the winch. I'm ready for a snow storm.

Love the 10/22's. I picked up a MKIII pistol today. Never had one before, and I gotta say I can't wait to shoot it!

Made some charcloth for each of our 5 BOB's.

Had the boys practice making a fire with nothing but what the find in the woods and a ferro rod.

They didn't fair so well. I made a fire pretty quick once I went to making the fire. They spent a total of 10 minutes TOPS prepping for the fire. I bet I spent an hour. The two older boys tried again tonight. Again No go. I did it again in about 25 minutes this time. Oregon can be tricky, since in the winter it is really wet here. They are going to give it a go again tomorrow.

We also spent 2 hours on the mat practicing our self defense. Not really survival or Prepping stuff, but it is good to know how to handle yourself with another person.
