Default Snow report

Dont go to biglake if you value your carbides

Eureka had tons of snow but was extremely crowded. Had to go back past monument to get any untracked powder or solitude. We didn't go near gunsight, so dont know about conditions in that direction.

Rode from Gunsight parking lot about 4-5 miles from the lodge. Ran up to the treeline on the lodge side boondocking through the trees. Came across MANY untracked ponds and creeks... tore them all up! Fresh settled powder over the cowling all day long. Average snow depth about 3 feet of powder then typical Eureka sugar snow base. Hard to get stuck unless you get stupid.
Lots of stumps still poking through, be careful when off the trails.

Went to Petersville to an area kind of hidden and rode the whole day in waist deep snow and saw only four people that passed us.

Eureaka was nice in the valleys and rolling hills. lots of people though. I left sunday. Heard that two riders got caught in an avalanch. rescue team and choppers still looking for signs. Three riders got caught two still missing. One is safe and sound. Let this be a late season reminder to the rest of us to check warnings and keep our heads screwed on tight, not get crazy and take chances that are unneccery. Sledding is great fun, but not worth losing your life or a freinds life. Everyone be safe and ride hard...........

As I was in the middle of this I got word that all riders involved are found and are safe. That is a huge relief. One sled was lost. but the ponit is that the snow is getting to a very unstable point with all the warmer weather. They spent the night out in the elements. Go prepaired, be safe and use your best judgement.

This is what the above text is supposed to say:

My friend’s parents live in Cantwell and just I just got a report from them. It has been snowing non stop for the last couple of days, they have almost 2 feet of good fresh powder and the temps are good. Should be perfect riding conditions with a good base.

Rode at Eureka Monday, the crowds that I had heard about were gone. We only saw one other group out all day. Went up to the glacier, beautiful day with untuched snow here and there but it could use another dump pretty soon.

+1 !!!!!

Unreal, and absolutely no people. We boondocked through the trees and opened up some swamps that were completely untouched. No mainstream trails touch them, therfore EVERYBODY avoids them! **** I love boondocking!!!

Powder over the cowling all day long, full tank of fuel gone in less than 50 miles!!
Good day!

Jeez..

again, +1.

Petersville was great on Saturday!

Niko.. where do you ride in Pville? Do you go down the road or do you have a 'secret' parking place?

We usually park at mile 121 (campground) and ride the snowmobile association trails to the swamps and then boondock kinda towards the reflector tree. But, to this day, we have never had enough fuel to play all the way to the tree and get back out! We put 40 miles on the sleds on sat and never were more than 5 miles from the truck!!!!

We go to the Roadhouse and cut left, over a few hills, make a couple turns, then drop into a valley/huge creekbed. Endless waist deep pow. If you want to tag along let me know. I'm just going with buddy and we'll probably get there around 10:30. We usually unload at the last big parking lot.

If you see this sled...stop by and say hi

Thanks for the tip Niko. Went to Pville today and it was sick. The wind started blowing so the swamps and the high ground above tree line is starting to get a little crusty, but the boondocking ( my favorite anyway) is great. The powder is deep over by dollar creek. The snow hawk shine's in the trees and the deep stuff.

Uggg.. just got home from a very exhausting 25 mile jaunt in Pville today. Light was great, blue bird skies all day long. Right out of the parking lot the only Arctic Cat with us lost one cylinder. '04 F7, only been lightly abused during its 2000+ miles. Less than one mile down the first trail it dropped a hole. Still getting spark, but no go. Fuel? Seemed to get compression... dunno. He rode back to the motorhome and watched movies and slept for a few hours (he NEEDED it anyways!)
Next we spent time boondocking from swamp through trees to swamp through more trees, tore up another swamp... and then we see one single track coming out of the woods looping around and going back the way they came. No paddles, just a short lug with very little ground pressure. did not sink in very much at all. So, we decide to go and look to see where they came from, if they are still there (very fresh tracks) if they need help, are they at a cabin... etc etc etc. The vally started out wide with a small creek in the middle. It shortly got very deep, the walls got very narrow and steep and the creek got wider. After one person would go through a pile of folded over alders, they would spring back up making it **** near impossible to follow. Only 3 of us, resulted in all 3 of us stuck trying to loop around and figure out how to get out of this valley. It took over an hour to get all three sleds out and back on decent snow. Like I said, exhausting.
Snow on the big swamps wasn't bad, still deep, but wind blown. It will be crusting over soon, afternoon 20 degree plus spring time riding is almost here!!! Smaller swamps are still very fun, not too much wind, and very deep. If you carve too tight, pretty easy to turn a carve into a trench!
All in all, I only logged 23 miles today, but I burned almost 3/4 tank of fuel... working that little 600 for all its got!!! And I got some good 'stuck' pics, will have to post them after the film gets developed.(dont like using digi cam when riding... too expensive to lose! LOL!!)

What is the best place for some spring riding? Me and a budy would like to head out this Saturday for some spring mayhem. We have ridden at P-Ville and Turnagain but would like to try something new. How is the snow this time of the year at Eureka, P-Ville, or Hatchers? Thanks for any info... Oh, and we are what you would call “newbies” to the snowmachine thing...

Hatchers is a rock garden right now. I rode Talkeetna off of Yoder Rd. on Sunday and found a few good swamps but I think we tore up the only ones left. I would say Petersville or cantwell.

We went up to Lake Louise for the spring poker run saturday, the trails were in good shape and the lakes weren't too bad. Not a lot of powder but not a bad ride and the weather was beautiful.

Eureka is still good, Saturday we went all the way to the Governors Manison on the Oshetna. Weather was beautiful, snow was plentiful and we only had to tow out one sled.
