Default 2000 ram v10 electrical questions

Me and a friend are working on making a buggy out of a 2000 ram v10 2500 frame. We have the engine wiring harness but no computer or any wiring that went into the cab. I'm wondering if we can get the engine running without the wiring from the dash and the security system or if it needs the gauge cluster. We will be buying a PCM and put our own ignition in. then supply power and ground to the necessary pins on the computer but still not sure if it will work.

I can't say for sure if it will work or not but here's my best advise. First off My guess is no it's not going to be that simple. Dodges have some of the most advanced wiring and computer systems in vehicles, Even in 2000. If you can plug a real computer into it without the cab harness to see what it's doing, you might be able to send fake signals to each system. But with dodges it's no just as easy as sending 12 volts to a signal wire. The computer knows that there shouldn't be power to certain systems all the time and what amps should be in that circuit. Do a lot of research before you put to much effort into it. It might all be wasted time. You might be able to send your PCM to somebody and have them delete the need for all the extra stuff.

Hp tuner for a lap top is pretty sweet. Just started playing with it on my super duty buggy project. There is a lot of options in that program to turn off sensors, modify set points, ect... in almost all the systems.

I'm not positive if painless makes a harness for what you are doing but if they do I bet that would help out a lot.

Good luck I hope it works for you. Keep us posted. If your able to work out the bugs, there should be a lot of good tech to share

Most of the security crap is in the driver's door lock and is removable loock for a ecu from a fleet vehicle alot don't have the security provision to start with and will be much easier good chance if you want to run a stock ecu you will need a body control module aswell because dodge thought it would be fun to spread out saved settings for the ecu mostly contains info for the dash odo gauges but it also controls every tiny bulb front to back depends how much stock harness you want to use

For what it's worth I would never buy a painless wiring product agian bought a v8 swap harness for a old Chevy they didn't strip any wires before they put connectors on they they sent one replacement wires falling out of the plugs and that was all the support I got nothing after that

Since Chrysler offered the gen1 and gen2 v10 as crate motors, you can purchase a simple harness and ecu straight from them. At least it was offered, don't know if it's still available.

Google "wiring harness for 2000 Dodge" or some variation of that, Diablo??? rings a bell for reprogramming stock ECM's, I believe the anti-theft will have to be disabled and an original type ignition switch used for the ecm to get the proper signal. YMMV Good luck! The stand alone harness from Chrysler may be configured correctly.

I appreciate the info. Had some free time to look at the motor a little more and do some simple test and at first couldn't get the engine to turn over by hand then I took the serpentine belt off and the alternator was seized badly. After that it turned over easy we thought we were in the clear then started doing compression test and found muiltply cylinders had zero compression so it's not worth fixing. Now we have access to a running and driving cummins 24v and an allison trans. Should be easier and more reliable
