would be a great motor for that size truck but i would really be afraid of a strait 6 being too long to feasably fit under the hood of a midsize that normally comes with a v-6.

I mean if you cut up the firewall and make a custom tunnel you could do it but it sounds like a bunch of work.

put a 302 in it, with a 4 barrel, intake, and (possibly) headers a 302 would make way more power than either of those engines, most likely get better mileage, and of course the cool factor of a v8 in a truck that small and light weight, and keep in mind the 300 is considered a big block, i pulled the 300 out of my old f250 and put a 351w in its place and the truck sat higher meaning the 300 is heavier than a 351w. if you found a wrecked 96 to 97 ford explorer with a 5.0, then there is your drive train, pull the fuel injection off, put a carb and intake on it, not to mention the explorer is on a ranger chassis, therefore engine, tranny and tcase are interchangable, and another benefit, the explorer 5.0s have gt-40 heads, and roller cam, this is something i have thought about quite a bit in the past

I think it would be bad ***!!! 300 six is the best engine ford ever made , and you can build them to get really good power

i think 84 ford has an idea there. i have seen 302's in rangers and they fit pretty nice, or you could easily find a newer 4.0 v-6 to swap into your older ranger, those are great motors too and would be an easy swap from a newer exploder which can be found really cheap.

302 is a common swap into rangers. They did a V8 swap in a Mazda pick up on Trucks last year, came out pretty sweet. wasn't a 302, but it was still a V8

yeah ive seen a few rangers with 302's in them and yes i love that motor...i have 2 300's that i have nothing to do with and i cant seem to sell and was was thinking it would be cool and unique it would be alot eisyer to put a 302 in it though...another thing i was thinking is that a 300 and 302's are both pretty torquie motors would i need to re enforce the frame at all or???

300s are good for boat anchors but I think the frame and axles would be fine, the link I posted "the ranger station" has alot of good info, the weak point would definately be the trans, that's where the explorer comes in, also if your ranger has a c5 it should be fine, but if you have a manual plan on getting rid of it, also mercury made the mountaineer which is the same as an explorer and they put the same 5.0 it that as well

I think it would be great with a 300 in it. I would measure the length to see how much room there is and how much work you want to do then go from there

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o64t6UDevS4 this has a 4.9 in it and claims it has that "muscle car sound" if i were you i would do the 302 swap, easier, cheaper, more power and less fab work
