Welcome, glad we could finally get you registered... As for that Toyota being clean, do you REALLY think that will be the only dent or scratch after you start wheeling it?

Hiya!

Just getting back into the off-roading scene and living up near Fairbanks Alaska, in the Air Force, and stationed at Eielson AFB. I have a 79 Bronco Ranger XLT with a 6" susp. lift, and some other extras. My bronco doesn't look pretty but she can roll pretty good. I am friends with the folks at the Arctic Offroad Club - Click Here- and should be paying my dues to the club soon... if they will have me as a member. Right now I am only their webmaster but I plan to get more involved.

Cheers!

Arin

Default I wanna sleep...

less than 36 hours to finish the truck and do a days work before the carnage begins

- hunting is a big polital bad move in the UK but I was a gamekeeper and I love to hunt, as for the guns I m lucky, because of my job they let me have pretty much what I want

Can anyone tell me if theres a car ferry or a regular freight route over the Bering striaghts and who operates it? I really would like to drive overland to Alaska next summer

Cheers

Jez

That is an Awesome looking little rig!! I like the red top mounted on its side. Looks good!!!

As far as a ferry, Im not sure. I dont think there is much of a way to drive anywhere once you get on mainland AK unless you drive down the coast. There was a thread somewhere on this board a while ago that outlined what it would take to drive to Nome.

thanks - the red top on the side was pinched from Brook (great idea fella), I made some forms up and pressed some plates into shape, works well - Ive only got 1/2" clearance so it had to be side mount .

Nope, no Ferry. You could fly it, I think, if your fit withing the cargo dimensions. East-West travel to the U.S. from Russia is still a touch-n-go situation. Alaska Airlines did set up a regular stop in Magedan, I don't know that it is still operating. I am sure you could drive/train-ship across Russia, from reading The Investment Biker and The Turtle Expedition, but you might have to end up in Japan or China, then the U.S. West Coast, then get back up to Alaska.

Maybe those folks who just posted up, xxxpedition.com , have looked into this.

Erik

P.S. Good thing you run diesel, not just for economy, but for remote locations, it's often all the fuel you can get, or at least easier to get.

Default Stuff

Thanks deepmud, I know the Russian side of the trip is straightforward (paperwork wise) as Eastern Europe is as unrestricted as Western Europe since they joined the E.U. The Bone road is famous as being the toughest long haul trip we have access to so I gotta have a go .

I know there's a plane out of Magadan so I guess that must be Alaskan (I'll check it out)

last pic of the Pig before we travel (bet your getting sick of seeing it )

hehehehe

Cheers

Yeah, I'll hold him and you hit him

What I carry is much larger than his little pea-shooter also. Wonder what his plastic troublemaker would look like after being hit with a .44 Mag?

alrighty then, I guess I had better check in. I have been lurking around the board for a while, trying to get an idea of who ya'll are. sound like a fun bunch of folks.
Anyway, live in Fairbanks, own my own business Northern eXtreme Customs, that is finally getting a good start. Have an '89 wrangler with a 4.2L w/fresh rebuild, cam, Chevy TBI, Borla header. SM420 coupled to a dana300. Full width axles(10 bolts) and 35-15.50-15 swamper sx's. done a lot to it and it still aint done (like it ever will be).

anyway thats who I am, good to be here.
