Yep, not really in the same league. A 70 is more comparable strength wise.

I currently have a 14. Am looking to convert to a rear steer. It's a little spendy but the only downfall I see is you can't run as low of gears in the 14. 538 is the lowest.

Thats the biggest difference overall...(gear selection.)

Depends on what your planning on doing with it. what gears you want, price range, ect.

you can pick either one up from a wrecking yard for about the same price roughly.

The 14boltff come factory with 1.5" 30 spline shafts. Has a 10.5" ring gear and is even rated to be stronger than the Dana 70.

The D60 only runs a 9.75" ring gear, FF have 1.31 shaft diameter and 30 spline( late modle D60ff) (*early modles had 1.31 shaft diameter and 16 spline shafts. Do the math

and yes this shoulda been posted in the Tech forum

I wanna play...

Dana 60 rear ends are not nearly as strong as as the 14b.

10.25s are pretty much in between the 60 and 14bolt... but closer to the 14 bolt..

That being said, I've abused the snot out of multiple 10.25 rear ends, and have yet to have anything fail (This being welded locked, 44 boggers, and A LOT of weight on top...)

I've really only seen one 14bolt fail (Chris Lee's on his suburban ), and that was a pretty dramatic fail...

oh yeah... WRONG FORUM

Yes I know this is the wrong forum. I was reading in this one and didn't pay attention when clicked new thread. I decided to build the 14. Ordered a crane high clearance kit and spider trax spindles. When parts arrive I will do a little wrighting about my build with photos. This is all for a rear steer setup.

I broke a 14 bolt shaft with 38's too.

If you want to take advantage of those deeper gears, the dana 60 might not hold up.
