Default Hemi powered TJ build

Recently wrecked my 04 TJ-
Just getting ready to leave work ten minutes before the accident

Got my poor TJ back home from the ATF stained pavement

Damages include-Very bent frame, body tweaked all around (only body parts that are still straight are passenger side door, tailgate and hood), bent front driveline, completely cracked in half transfer case. Added all up = TOTALLED
Time to go Jeep shopping!

After a couple weeks looking around town for any sweet deals on TJs my buddy from the COMMSTA offered to sell me his broken 97' TJ- $4000

After locating a power steering pump, rear driveline, rear axle pinion yoke, IT WAS SOLD!!!

And now the rebuild begins!

Oh, and btw, I'm swapping in a 5.7L Hemi V8!
I work at a wrecking yard here on the island and a totalled 05ish Dodge Durango entered our doors and it just so happened to have the 5.7L Hemi. So I ask the boss " Sooo... How much for the Hemi?" "Free..." my boss replied " Consider it a bonus." And Jumping for joy I began rigorous digging on the web for what I'll need for the swap. But that's all further down the road, first I plan on moving all my goodies over from the 04' TJ to the 97'. (Rubi Express Long arm four link suspension, Ford 8.8 rear end[Chromoly Shafts and Eaton E-Locker, Disk Brakes, and 4.10 gears] Also plan on ordering a ProRock 44 front end)Many other things are planned as well, but I'll just post as I get to it!

Thanks for the info! I'm on a tight budget at the moment, but as build moves on it will hopefully gain momentum and I'll start getting things done faster as I go. I work 54 hour weeks and have 12+ hour weeks of college this semester so things will start off slow but I'll try to get at least one thing done a week and update the thread weekly!
Here's some pics of the Durango after it's arrival.

Rear end is toast but the front end is untouched so I'd bet my arse that the Hemi still runs strong.

There was a guy here on the forum that did the swap, when they came out with the JK he sold his hemi TJ and built a four door 6.1 JK. They handle great in the snow!

Haha, I would do that Rdrash, but as a 20 year old college student, I don't have the coin for it XD . This build is actually going to cost me very little due to the fact that a great deal of what I need I already have because I was in the right place at the right time at very little cost to myself.
From what I can tell, all I have left to drop money on regarding the 5.7L Hemi is a wiring harness, radiator, motormounts/brackets and other little odds and ends that will pop up. I have an ECM, instrument cluster, and have hopefully located a bellhousing that will adapt my NV3550 tranny to the Hemi, which brings the question... Will the bellhousing from a 1994 dodge Dakota 3.9L V6 work to bolt my NV3550 to the Hemi? I have read this somewhere but neglected to take notes when I did. I believe the transmission side of the Dakota's bellhousing will bolt to my NV3550, and the engine side bolts to the 5.7L Hemi V8, I've located this bellhousing via a Dakota that showed up to the scrapyard I work at. I'd like a little input from others before I go through the trouble of pulling the bugger. Hate to go through all the work and find out that it wont work. So what do you guys think?
Thoughts? Opinions? Suggestions?

Have you looked into turning that hemi into a carb'd motor? I know it sounds backwards but there has been enough interest into putting them into hot rods that some guys were able to go the carb route cheaper than upgrading the fuel delivery system and making a harness that works

Maybe once I get the Bronco to a point where I can get it outside, we can get this thing in and get to some serious work. The way things have been going, I'm predicting sometime in January.

Huh, that was weird. Thanks Dad! lol
Anyway, went ahead and ripped the nasty old carpet out of the jeep, plan on hurculining the interior.

And that sounds awesome Dad! No rush though, we've already built one jeep for me, and worked on others jeeps religiously. I think it's your turn to get something done on your rig.

And that sounds like a cool idea Rdrash, wouldn't have thought of that. I'll do some digging on the subject and weigh my options. I'll probably stick with the Fuel injected system though. probably grab what I need out of the Durango for fuel delivery system.

I would keep the motor, tranny, and transfer case from the durango and fit it all into the jeep if I wanted to do this as cheap as possible, because they already work together. nothing to buy.

I would too, depending on overall length. But, I prefer automatics. Either way, it can't be any longer than what's already in there.

I'm thinking I'm going to go with the automatic tranny, unless I find myself with an extra grand and change laying around, I may just go ahead and order a NV4500 from smartpartsauto-http://www.smartpartsauto.com/manual_transmission_nv4500_dodge.html
I strongly prefer a manual transmission in my jeep. I've never driven one that wasn't and just wouldn't feel right driving an automatic jeep, just my preference. I like the level of control you, the operator, have over your vehicle with a manual tranny. It just wouldn't feel the same to me any other way.

Excellent...I have a lot of sweat and tears invested in polishing those wheels and in a sick way I still kinda miss 'em!

Seriously, very sad to see the carnage and am very glad there were no injuries...lucky day in my book.

Look forward to the build.

Lucky day to be sure! Those sliders may have been Smittybilts, but they saved his arse (more accurately, his legs and hips!).

You still got my number? Still waiting on your arrival for fishing. Got PLENTY of room for boat and trailer at the new place.
