Default jim creek area fishing

Anyone been down there yet to try for silvers? I'm not sure if they're running yet, figured it was late July/early August..

Was out there Thursday and beat the water for about nine hours. Seen/heard a couple of decent tail flops, seen A good V running up the river, caught one Chum, and witnessed around 30 "Jim Creek" darwin award candidates.

I tried flies, vibrax, pixies, and eggs. The one Chum i did catch must be some new breed, was trying to eat from the middle of his back? lol, was the smallest Chum I'd ever seen too. Probably 2.5-3lbs

I'd lay odds they are going to be a week or two late this year. It seems like the salmon are running a bit late all over the state. Someone needs to give those fish a calendar.

Yep...they will be late. Low water temps and lack of bay bait for them to fatten-up on has kept them off-shore a bit longer than usual. Mid-August will start to show some decent fishing (if you can call Jim Creek that).

If it were me I would just be early to Caswell Creek at mile 84 (or 89...can`t remember) and head just upstream of the trail down to the creek where it bends and starts to get shallow. Be there before daylight (with a gun...bear country) and post up on that corner working a Vibrax very slow. You can cast all of the way across so covering everything that turns the corner is easy. If it is legal to fish bait...run some eggs on the spinner. I have yet to have to cast more than 10 times during the peak to get my fish. After sun-up hang it up as the silvers are very wary salmon.

Another spot is on Sheep creek behind the Lodge up through the brush to under the railroad bridge. That corner produces some nice fish at low-light hours and also gets some decent rainbow and dolly action.

Tight lines!

I was out there for a shakedown run today and saw a decent group of folks fishing. Nobody seemed to be catching anything.

There are other areas of Knik that see fish, if you are weary of the crowds and idiots. Just takes a little exploring.

uh ya... I don't think the mega cab would make it there. Current spot on the Knik is best fished from the tailgate... or in waders within close proximity to the cooler that's sitting on said tailgate.

But thanx Charlie for reinforcing the point that I don't have a boat yet, twist the knife to the left now

Thanks for pointing out our ineptities. (Is that even a word?)

My motorbike won't be making a trip there I'm afraid. And I don't really think my little tub would be up for a trip in deep water like that.

Any updates? I'd like to take my family fishing if they are running.
