Hey all, just thought I'd introduce myself. I moved up here a few years ago from Utah and just recently drug my project up here to finish it up. I drive a 1953 Willys Wagon. So far it has a TBI 350, sm420 tranny, dana 300 t-case, dana 44 front, dana 60 rear, power brakes, power steering, 4 wheel disc, somewhere in the neighborhood of a 5 inch lift, and rolls on a set of bald 285/75r16s. Until yesterday it didn't really have properly functioning four wheel drive and it still has a few other bugs to work out, so I haven't really had it off road yet, but I'm looking forward to trying it out and learning some AK trails.

Default Del Albright, BlueRibbon

Ok, all you northerners (smile), Del Albright here. I finally got signed up and checked in. My better half, LadyRed (Stacie) has been on here for a bit, helping out, and now I have the opportunity to chime in as well. I love your great state and will continue to help you as best I can.

Just got approved and thought I'ld introduce myself. Name is Tim and I retired from the Coast Guard and moved here to stay. Live in Chugiak and got a 97 Toyota Tacoma, put a 3" lift from Northwest Offroad and Cooper STT's 32-12.5-15's on Eagle rims just for starters. Just trying to get off the beaten path and do a little fishing. Found this site by searching and enjoy reading whats hear and looking through what everyone is doing with their rigs.

Greetings from Knik.
I have read on the board off and on for a bit so I guess its time to introduce myself and Family.
Retired USAF and still bending wrenches.
Hopefully I can get my work shop project off the ground this year so I dont have to wrench in the snow.......
We live out the KGB road a bit and attend the Sunny Knik Church.
My wife and I would like to get to know some of you folks in the local area and have some family fun off road.
We have 9 children with 5 still in the nest ranging from 16 down to 7.
I have been inspired by Dans E450 van with 44 inch tires and would like to do something simular to my E350. It sure look anemic with only 33 inch mud terrains on it after looking at his wheeling pics....
After putting new batteries in my Mercedes 2 seat convertable (unimog)yesterday, I had a blast driving thru some snowbanks on the place.

Regards,

Jim

Hello, my name is Quinton. I'm pretty new to the 4x4 scene. But I just bought a 87 4runner I'm going to SAS, so that should be exciting. Glad to see theres somewhat of a 4-wheeling organization up here.
This is my DD, but soon to be rid of the body lift and have 33s

This I picked up for $400, rebuilt the 22re, and am going to SAS soon, and stick those 35's on. Should be fun! there.

Welcome!! Where did you come from? And why did you choose Alaska?

There are many local clubs you may be interested in. Some are loosely organized while others are very active and have a strong voice in local (Alaska) land use issues. You should keep your eyes peeled for the 2008 Alaska 4x4 Meet and Greet taking place at the AK State Fairgrounds in June. That would be a great place to get involved in our "somewhat" organized groups

Yes, the Meet & Greet will be an awesome place to come and meet new friends and have a chance at taking home some great raffle prizes including a set of new tires and many other goodies!!! I'm working hard down here in the lower 48 to get the most awesome off road companies to send up stuff so be sure to buy lots of tickets and be there!

See you there...

I came from Texas, on a senior trip, to visit my uncle in Big Lake for a week. But then i stayed. Been back twice since. (3yrs) Now I love The AK, and am big into hiking, skiing, fishing, the usual. And I was just able to get some tools and a itty bitty workspace, so now I will let my inner passion for tinkering and fabricating take over. Hopefully I'll have a trail worthy 4-runner before too long!

Ok im a newbie.Kinda Had user name for alittle over a year, but a deployment took me away from alot stuff . Including my old rig let wife trade it in on new car dumb dumb dumb but any way im lookin to trade my quad for a descent rig.Quad is a 2006 Suzuki Vinson 500 4x4.26inch ITP Mudlites,ITP aluminum wheels,HMF exhaust,HMF filter, and 2500lb warn winch.Quad is red and only has 69 hours, been rode less than 15 times. Also have a little cash and possibly firearms to throw in with good trade.Really want to get back into wheelin wife is pregnant and need to get away from atvs plus love the 4x4 community. If i cant find a trade buy may ill be looking to buy a cheap rig. Also am looking for a good family minded club to join once i get my rig. But thanks alot to all outdoor enthusiasts for helping to keep the outdoors open so our kids and our kids, kids can enjoy it.

Good to hear, glad the trip went well. There are a number of events coming up in the next 2 months so that you can put names with faces, just keep an eye on the trip planning section.

Welcome.

Hi, im pretty new to the 4x4 world as far as doing any sort of off roading. I live here in Eagle river an am interested in doing some light of roading. I was manly looking at going out to jims creek some time in the near future. But first I wanted to now what i really need as far as equipment goes for my rig.

I have a 1991 Isuzu trooper, it is 4x4 with low and high gears, its has about 9 inches of ground clearance from the rear axle( it was the lowest part of the car), I just bought some new all terrain tires, and it has full skid plates: engine, tranny, gas tank. I know its not the most extreme vehicle in the world but it has never let me down before and has gotten me anyplace I've ever needed to go. But from what I understand Jim's creek as far as off road area's go is one of the easy places, not that I don't under stand the inherent danger of any kind of off road driving. So is it doable with this truck or do i need to get a lift kit or other equipment to do this?

Thanks~

hey everyone, im 31,married without kids yet. im in the army so i havent been around much, but ive been in alaska for a good long time.... now the important stuff...

my ride is an 83 ramcharger on 3/4 ton axles with 4.11 gears and a locker in the rear. it has about 5" of suspension lift, alot of fender trimming, and a wore out set of 40X17 ground hawgs. theres a new set of 38.5X15 boggers on the way, and a million ideas on paper and in my head of course. Just wish the army would give me a little more time to work on it, and alot more time to wheel it.
