Default D90 or XSi

nikon vs. canon war.... the new d90 is 12.3mp @4.5fps but will shoot video, costs $699+ (msrp 1279.95 for kit)

The XSi is a revamp on the XTi, with the 12.2mp @3.5fps sensor from the 1D, but no video (but its an SLR, is video really nessasary?) costs $319+ (msrp is $799 body only $899 kit)

I can pick up either for the first listed price, but the msrp is substantially higher.. the D90 is pretty much brand new, and costs over twice as much... but the wifey is really excited about the thought of shooting 720p video 1280x720 at 25fps through a telephoto lens....

Nikon is my preference BUT Shooting video should be for video cameras not SLR's . Also see if canon fixed that problem with the mirror hinge spring falling out . the XTI had that issue ... but in reality its all the glass anyway , spend the money on better glass as soon as you can. I would never get a camera as a "kit" the lenses they package with them suck , and usually mostly plastic

i already have lenses, i'm using a XT right now, havent had any problems with any hinges on it. as far as the shooting video thing, I didn't really thing it was anything amazing, but then it crossed my mind... how many video cameras can you put an 800-1200mm telephoto lense on and film **** through? that could make some crazy bird videos/ long distance footage for up on mountain sides etc filming wheeling

ok then why change formats and go to nikon ? and you will find that the picture wont be as good when you run video .. 800-1200 mm lens huh ? where you gonna get that kinda lens without it being slower than dirt and noisey.

NO EF lenses are Canon , you cant use canon stuff on a nikon, what would make you think the 2 are compatable at all ?

I've played with this thing, it seemed pretty fast, i have no idea how it would focus with video....

i was just kinda hoping maybe canon and nikon would work across the board... i only have 4 lenses only 2 of them are worth anything... My father has a pair of nice 400mm and that 800mm telephoto, i really liked how they looked, even with his 20D's resolution.

i hear ya.... i might go as high as $500, but once the lense starts costing more than the camera you feel scared to put it on.

He uses his camera's as dust covers for his lenses. when he runs down the batteries/memory card, instead of just replacing them, he swaps in a different camera body... like its a lens cap..

I feel the opposite . I like having glass that will outlive my body . I have 3 lenses 50 mm 1.4 , 35-70 2.8 and my 80-200 2.8 , the next one I am getting will set me back roughly $1500 . my D200 now is behind the curve but I know it really well so I am reluctant to change yet

this is our mini arsenal, the flash works awsome when you aim it right and remember to put new batteries in it ever month or two (unless you like waiting 5 minutes for it to charge) 90% of the time its just got the crappy disposable 18-55mm lense from the factory on it..

I'm personaly leanin toward the XSi simply for the use of what we have already, and even though we have an 8gb CF card and a few single and double gig cards right now, the XSi uses HCSD cards, which will be way faster than what we are using, and it will force me to buy somthing a little faster than this soon to fry micro drive that has unlimited storgage, but takes hours to offload the pictures off of it, let alone browse whats currently saved inside it.

I'm too lazy to read all these post but I can tell you that when you are shooting video with the D90 you can't zoom or anything of that nature.

if you are looking to upgrade a canon body I wouldnt suggest the XSI. If anything maybe 40 or 50D. The body construction is far better, not to mention a lot of the in camera features. However, I am a nikon guy...
