Default Project Assault

Fishing season over, decided to get myself another sled for this winter.
pretty cool story behind the sled, picked it up off a pro rider, and this exact sled was used in the film Winter Project.

its a 2014 assault RMK 800

definitely needs some love, but overall condition is surprisingly good for what the sleds been used for.

Id post pics, but photobucket doesn't seem to be working well for me currently, so heres a vid.

And yeah I loved my switchback assault and I'm sure I'll still ride it sometimes, but this assault rmk will come in handy in those deep pow days, and should hold up unlike my pro.

Picked up SPI Pistons for it, one had a bent upper ring and unfortunately no dealer has rings in stock. So the engine build will have to wait another week.

Honed the cylinder, came out good enough that I feel comfortable running it.

I'd been planning on swapping my tunnel braces from my pro to this assault and build a bumper, then I came to the conclusion it would look cleaner if I just built a bumper that was beefy and doubled as a brace.

Have one almost finished, little smoothing out and a tweak here and there and this should be good enough to use as a template to make copy's from.

Gotten a bit done lately

Engine back together, heres a little time laps I did.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=raD6o_gTkE0

swapped the stock pro rear shocks that came on the assault for my ryznar built ones.

Started polishing the tunnel, still have a ways to go before I'm happy with it but looking better. Unfortunately it really makes the tunnel repairs show, but it will all be covered once the bumper/brace is finished.

engines in, didn't take a pic with the air box and everything but its all done. All that's left is to put the exhaust in and oil tank then add coolant.

Here you can see the van amburg bulkhead/tunnel brace. Sure, all the braces on the chassis and suspension add a little weight, but the general idea of this sled is being able to take a serious beating and keep on rip'n without bending/cracking everything after a season.

Power ball and what ever aluminum polish I happened to have. I'll likely end up wet sanding it to really make it shine.

The CEL was the TPS unplugged, guess I missed that one.

After some serious thought, I think I'm going to finish the last few little things (replace brake light, rear bumper etc) and sell this to fund putting a turbo on my switchback assault. I think the 144 is just a lot of fun, and you don't see switchbacks boosted everyday so it will be kind of unique.

If anyone would be interested when I'm doing I'll be asking 4K for this rmk assault.

Well I have a buddy that's looking to get into riding, i offered him this sled now that its up and running well, think he's going to buy it. Selling it for what I have into it sense I'm all for my buddy's getting into riding, though I'm swapping the running boards and skis out for stock ones.

In other news, I picked up another project assault.. it's another 14' assault rmk 800 LE with 1700 miles on it. It has the narrow pro rmk front suspension. It was dropped off a sled deck while unloading, crunched the over structure and bent the bars, broke the throttle assembly etc. picked it up for a super cheap price and I already had everything sitting around to fix it and it has some fancy air shocks that I know nothing about, tried looking them up but cant find any others like it. havnt inspected to close, but I know they have comp and rebound adjustments, upper res says podium x, lower one on the inside says evol. sled runs good

well yes, simply put they are fox.... theres many different fox shocks though

After quite a bit of searching these are float x evol shocks, new the sets around $1500 cant believe people pay that kind of money for them But with two chambers to adjust pressures in, compression and rebound clickers they are far more adjustable then stock shocks so I guess that's pretty cool.

Talked my buddy into buying the black assault (after I fix it, of course) sense I really wanted to keep the project assault due to the bulkhead, tunnel and suspension braces. I'm a big guy that rides fairly hard I need all the extra braces I can get

43" zbroz front suspension is done

Ditched the crap Polaris tether for a OFT pro armor tether.

also replaced plastics that go around the gas tank, got a under hood bag. Also clutched the sled.

Got the stock 2.4 track swapped out for a 2.6
