Well I got my 8074 converted to the 8274 and put the 70865 motor. Worked great, I ordered 150' of 5/16" amsteel blue rope, then it will be test time! It sure runs the spool fast, it takes about 3 seconds to wind up to full rpm but it does really scream! Tim

I stock both motors. They run about $400. Currently there is no off the shelf solution for the drum bushings.

Well done article, I like the use of all Warm OEM parts. Have you ever considered pressurizing the motor to keep water out ? Not a new idea, and not necessary to pressurize to more 2-3 psi. This is done in control rooms in hazardous areas to keep toxic/explosive gases out. Just a thought, at your level, most people have OBA anyway.

This is an old thread. 2007... wow.

Anyways, Shack, Eddie did that mod after coming back from Malaysia. I think he got it from some aussies down there. IIRC he had one of his compressors plumbed into a fitting on the topcase. Not sure how it was controlled, but I think he had it switched to run when the wipers were on or something. As you mentioned, low pressure. Just vinyl hose and spring clamps.
