Default GM Dana 44 leaks at pumpkin

Was looking for my mysterious engine oil leak today, jacked the front of the truck up using the front diff as usual, looks like I have gear oil leaking from where the axle tube is pressed/tack welded in, any way to fix this or is it just time for a 60?

I'm pretty sure Carl has an 8 lug d44 in the weeds at the shop, would sell for cheap.

This I'd my 2nd d44, first one ate a ring and pinion and ruined the housing, so I replaced it with this one, I do have quite a bit of power going through it, do you know if this is a common thing or am.I just lucky?

What is it in? What kind of power? What size tires? and last, but not least driving style?
If you have damaged two D44's, it is probably time to upgrade components or go to a stronger axle, like a D60. Remember Shackletts' first law of mechanics, "There is no metal so strong, that it will withstand a weak mind" LOL, Good luck!

Lol fair enough, the first one the ring gear bolts backed out and cause the ring and pinion to eat each other. Not sure why it happened but that was 13 years ago(still in high school)

Oh this I'd an 8 lug d44 if it matters

It has a 383 10.6:1 compression, roller cam, dart heads, guesstimated horse power 450-500, 2500 stall converter, 456's, 285/75/16 tires, 4" lift

I don't do hardly any off road stuff with it, it makes it out about 3 times a year and is nothing serious, it only gets driven in the summer, but when I do drive it I am pretty hard on in, but nothing that I can think of that would cause the axle tube to leak, I've never seen them leak there, someone stole me it's possible to weld the tube to the housing?

Hard surface streets, bigger tires, more torque and HP=D60
