It is a long story, I will try to get out short.
He wiorked for GM when he was 19 helping design the Stingray.
In the GM library he found some German papers regarding aerodynamics. He couldn't read the words, but numbers are numbers...

He applied what he learned and drew up some stuff. The 'vette guys told him it was ugly.

A few years later he ended up working for Shelby. They thought it was ugly, but eventually let him build it but only in between other stuff.

It broke track recods the first day it drove. That got Shelby's attention.
The first race was at Daytona where it lapped all the cars going in to refuel. It caught on fire and they had to rewire the back half of teh car. It still finished.

Pete had to stay back in LA and could only participate via phone. (he was still the new guy...)

Next it was off to Europe. Gia was commissioned to build a few more bodies for them. They said it was ugly and modified it. Pete did not like that.

He also told them that they need a rear spoiler for the high speed tracks in Europe. They wouldn't listen, he was the new guy after all...
At Neurenburg They found teh rear end lifting. The rivitd on some metal and cut it down until it worked right. This turned out to be the height Pete had calculated...

The whole thing is funny because no one seemes to trust his ideas even after they were proved.

The story is better when he tells it.

though we have no pictures of this car actually at Seattle Dragway, Larry Webb, who was the chief mechanic, states that in Sept. 1964 they ran the car with a 377ci motor with a dual airmeter, 3.70 differential and road race trim. It turned 136.50 mph in 10.86seconds.

one word sums up these cars. BADASS!

theres some sweet cars about, but being a limey Ive gotta fly the flag

one day I WILL own one of these, prices are getting affordable, the original TVR Cerbera, 160-180mph depending on spec

or for something more fruity, hows about the TVR speed 12

2300lbs, 800bhp, no turbos, no traction control just smiles all the way

TVR are made in Blackpool England - the TVR comes from the guy that started the company, his name is Trevor (geeky name in the UK), he junked some letters hence TreVoR, the company has just been bought by a 23 year old Russian guy

haha quit with all these cars that gotta be boosted, how bout raw american power. i aint had my share of it, but i did help restore a 65' falcon with the original 289 and c4 tran. then i was workin on a 66' mustang coupe, planned to drop down and put a 302 w/ t-5 tranny. currently workin w/ my father on his dragster dreams, got a 48' fleetmaster down in iowa we plan to chop down, got an 80's el camino we plan to use for chassis and a big small block from a 77' monte carlo. we plan to put a mII front end on.its a work in progress but in a few years it'll turn out pullin record times at the strips and still be street legal. who cares bout 0-60, thats all about how high gears you run, anything w/ 6speed or more counts cuz you got more gears to shift through givin more torque throughout the gears, like my truck can get to 0-60 in prolly 10 sec or less, havent counted but it gets up quick. but once it hits that point it aint goin up much faster, want a fast car, that i got restricted from racing, my moms, 03' jetta 1.8t, with a few extra parts and no gov chip. muldoon off ramp to boniface on ramp around 140-150 mph in less than 30 seconds, tell me that aint fast for a four door, and i beat a 90's white camero off the line on boniface. sorry loser hadda go flyin by after i slowed down when i saw i was doin over 60. on boniface. umm oops. and i'm boasting cuz it took alot of practice to learn how to take off just right to hit the rpms to kick on the turbo and run through the gears. now i redline my 90 ranger to do 45mph before i shift to third. crazy you ask, no... just confident. i love racing

Thumbs up Re: Most beautiful car ever?

but i have seen the new gt 500 and saw a lamborghini diablo today in anchorage. nice lookin rides i admit. but i dont want insurance that costs as much as payments

but the car of my dreams is the orca c 113

Orca C 113 specifications
Top Speed: 360 km/h
0-100 kph: 2.9 secs.
Power: 650 HP
Engine: 8 Cylinder
Less than a hundred of Orca's C 113 are expected to be made per year. To keep car weight at a minimum, C 113 is adorned with light-weight materials like carbon fiber and an aluminum chassis.
Orca comes in two colors, bright orange and dark blue. i'd car jack this one

you most likely saw the few ferrari's in town , in 13 years here I have never seen a lambro yet . havent heard of a GT500 being up here yet , alot of GT's with the twin racing stripes but who knows ... and that other ford arround town is simply the GT , not the GT40 like some people call them ... lots of pics of racing cars / hand built stuff ... but sometimes it's more pimpish to be driven .... nice pix of hte rolls .

It is a "Ford GT", not a GT40. The GT40 is what it was designed after, but different names.

Most beautiful car, to me doesnt necessarily mean its the most expensive or exotic. My first real car was a 1980 Monte Carlo, and to me its one of the most beautiful vehicles i have ever had the pleasure of driving. Of course mine had a 383 stroker under the hood. I wish i had a picture i could post on here.

Aside from that, isnt this a 4x4 forum. i didnt see one nominee for a truck. I think a Napco '55 chevy 3100 is also a very worthy candidate.

I spent a few months down in jersey a few years back and got the chance to ride in a buddy's 1000+hp supra... HOLY HELL that thing had shove... didnt pull like a mustang or a vette but you knew once the boost got above about 15lbs you were gunna have a hell of a time leanin forward... thats when i fell in-love with imports... when you take a motor that was originally in the 200hp range and 3.0l then multiply its HP by a factor of 5... thats impressive... atleast IMHO
