Default 3 Jan 2015 Knik Glacier Run

Gathered a small group of rigs to head out to the glacier. Made it to the Pavilion around 1 pm.

Gus, Patty, James, and Josh and the pup in the Crew Cab

My wife and I in the Red Stepside

Adam and Ed in the White XJ

Then Josiah and Jed met up with us in the Exploder and Geo.

We also ran into Wayne in the F250 at the Pavilion, and he tagged along.

On the way out we played in the dunes a bit, then hit the first crossing. Not too bad, as there had already been a huge run of Jeeps head out. Geo got a little wedged in, but a small tug got him out.

Friday Creek was a no go, obviously

The whole way in we were passing droves of Jeeps heading back from the Glacier.

On one of the water crossings, the rear axle of the CC broke through the ice. I attempted to follow and broke the rest of the way through, but ended up crawling out after a little help breaking some more ice.

Caught the first real carnage when we hit a narrow patch of trees and off came the mirror.

After that, no real problems through the trails. A few good ruts have been dug in that weren't there last time I went out.

Crossed over and dropped down over the ridge to the glacier, to about 20+ Jeeps. Two of which were dead in Metal Creek, one with a flat and the other sucked water. Only 2 Jeeps were trying to help, one anchoring the other trying to winch them out. Gus ferried the winch line across, and The ZJ was pulled out and a spare was borrowed.

And yes, this guy had been in the water already trying to hook up a winch line.

But the White TJ insisted on being pulled forward out of the water up over the shelf. Winching didn't work so the CC hooked up to the front.

After that, headed over and met some more Rover and Jeep guys who had fires going, cooked some food and enjoyed the company. Packed up after a bit and headed back to the pavilion.

Trip back wasn't too eventful, Wayne lost an alternator wire which halted progress for a bit. A group of Jeeps met up and followed Josiah and Jed out.

I lost headlights for a bit, and the XJ was losing air due to ice jammed in the beads. At one point Wayne met a rock with his bedside and folded it in, and Gus jammed his bumper and lights up on some ice in one of the crossings.

The white TJ has since been flushed and steering fixed and has been recovered from Metal Creek.

Looks like a nice trip. Good job helping those guys out. Too bad others aren't as nice as you all are.

Ski,
Was the ZJ a 5.9L? Am I going to cry inside a little?

Some people actually believe in having a healthy productive 4x4 community in this state. Others don't. I'm happy to be a part of the former.

Not 100% sure Rob, as I wasn't paying too much attention to that one. Our focus changed to getting the white one out after that.
