When I got the truck the 6.2 had a blown head gasket...

After bringing the heads to the machine shop.. I found that one of them was cracked...So... I will be getting another one from the junkyard or elsewhere... (You got one Ian??)

Near future plans:
Put engine back together with surfaced heads and new gaskets
Replace all leaf spring bushings
Build Shackle flip (ran out of money to buy one)
Install 52s and zero rates..

how bad is the crack? a "cracked" head is a very normal thing on the 6.2 and 6.5. where is the crack? if its between the intake and exhaust valve then as long as its not leaking water or burnet up one of the valves then run it.

Great to see another CUCV, I have a 1985 M1028. How much lift you planning to clear the 39.5's? Is your's a M1008 or a M1028? Both have Detriot lockers in the rear and the 1028 will have a limited slip in the front. Is it still 24V?

those are not "ok" cracks. go for the other head.

My truck with a semi-built 350 gets 7.3mpg at 55 and less in town.

with the diesel its about 13 at 55.

so even thou its a bit more its null in the end.

and since I got the bike I dont drive anything else much.

yah im either going to get another head or im going to buy that truck moose put up here... The owner said they had the engine rebuilt 30k or so ago...and they said last time they started it it ran great.... but its hard to get truck from the valley to here without paying 175 to tow it... oh and murphy explained why im sticking to the diesel..that and mechanical fuel injection...no distributor or stupid flooding carb to worry bout...On dieselplace.com people say them get over 25mpg on the highway stock...so even with 4.56s and 40" tires I should be doing better than a 350...

Check the bottom end of the engine as well. They are known to crack at the mains too.

I have 2 6.2s sitting at the house to make into 1 to go in the Blazer I have.

ok so finding a head in decent shape for a decent price is proving to be difficult... Also after further investigation.. I found I have a bent rod..one piston is about .005 further down then the rest if that makes since... I might just be throwing a SBC in there for the summer and rebuilding the 6.2 over the winter..The good is I have access to a freshly rebuilt 4bolt main 350 with a cam and intake and headers...(goodbye decent fuel mileage). I want this rig on the trails this summer... I wanted to make it to M&G but the chances of that are looking slimmer and slimmer...I should be doing some work on it this weekend regardless...and ill post some pics...

Man, that is what I would do. I did some research on heads for those things, and they are ****ed expensive. I would throw the SBC in it for now. Or forever, lol.

Easy fix, move to the valley. OR, get a settup out of a late 80s early 90s camaro.

The IM crap is pretty ridiculous. And you know before 2010 it will be back in effect, or will have never been actually lifted... But that is another can of worms....eeesh, Yea, another running diesel would help...
