So if Metal Creek is impassable does that mean no one made it to the Glacier?

Thanks for running with us we made it out just fine after our break down. I stopped buy Napa in Palmer and they made me some new hoses and sold me some more fittings. I re-tapped the steering gear and the truck is just about ready to go again. I am trying to come up with some kind of shield for the ram. We will post some of our photos soon.

I believe this is just heading out threw the dunes.

not sure where this is

The flats

rollin just past the beaver ponds.

Pace trying to turn around got a little caught up with all the slush and needed a little help backing up. Same spot as below.

The roost that the S-10 threw after dropping into a hole, This is where we decided to turn around.

Shot of the Glacier where we turned around.

Heading back across the flats it was fun breaking all the ice.

Driving to the parking lots, the blazer threw an alternator belt.. luckily about 1/2 mile away from the palmer napa. We stopped, got a new belt, replaced it and continued on our way.

Linked up at the parking lot, and made our plan of action. B-one wanted to drive his rig as far as it'd go and then park it, rather than leave it at the parking lot. Denali offroad club was taking some time to get arranged, yet Fix-it, Greythorn, Murphyslaw and the others were all raring to go, so I made the call and did a 2 group split... which bit me in the butt later.

This is group 1

I ran point most of the way, sometimes overtaken simply because knik has varying lines all over the place, no biggie. Ray tailgunned for the lead group, and Ian tailgunned the whole shebang at the tail of the 2nd group.

This was the first stuck of the day:

B-one got his shizzle stopped in its tracks. Little tug and he was all good though. We went past a kidnapper van parked out near the beaver ponds. Shades of Buffalo Bill and the like ran thru my mind. I took a wrong turn, ended up following a quad trail. Not a big deal, just had to get turned around to come out.

Made it up to where the trail normally was. Stopped for a bit, and heard over the VHF from Murph that the big f150 had some issues, namely running over a deadhead for some reason. All of that group, exept Murph, turned around after the broken ram/steering box. Ian called up, and I went back... but we had already progressed a bit down the trail, so I had pulled off the trail to let everyone else pass.

Of course, snow/ice and stopping on a dime are 2 things which don't go into a setence together. A downed tree about 4" across pointing straight at the trail impacted the tailgate of my truck, flexing things enough to pop my window once again. Really starting to hate that...

I bebop back to get Ian, and we move up to rejoin the group. The worst part about the beaver ponds was relatively deep snow. The best part, blowing past the ATV group that bombed past us earlier in the day. Muhahaha.

We continued on up until about 1 PM, when my Coast Guard Icebreaker act came to a slow, easy stop. I had to get tugged back, then the S10 pickup got stuck trying to turn around in the same area. At that point, the communal decision was made that it would be best to simply follow our route in, OUT, to the beaver ponds entrance area, and have our BBQ there.

Here's the river crossing right there. All rivers were easy, it was the overflow ice and snow that was the big thing.

Basically, after that, it was an easy run, with Murphyslaw needing a pull back onto the trail once and that was it.

I had a very enjoyable time out there, regardless of making it to the glacier or not.. Would have been nice, it was an awesome beautiful blue, just like the water we'd see most of the time. Good fun, and no breakage other than a window for our group.

my 85 would have done alot better with the deep water crossings ..not that i sucked any water in but ,i could have pushed a little harder ..

After our breakdown we decided to head back . Trying to steer 44 inch tires with no power steering is no easy chore. The reason for the lack of power steering was because we hit a piece of driftwood and broke a fitting on my hydraulic assist. After the repair of the hydraulic assist the steering gear box started to leak. But before heading back we decided to stop and have lunch.
